Microsoft continues to secure the Distributed Component Model (DCOM) on its Windows operating systems to address a security vulnerability (CVE-2021-26414). The current update to DCOM hardening was released on June 14, 2022.
DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) is a proprietary Microsoft technology for communication between software components on networked computers. DCOM is used in the ISRA VISION Surface Inspection systems in many areas.
Affected are inspection systems that run under Windows 10 or Windows 11 AND install the Windows update KB5004442 automatically or via manual intervention. In these cases, anomalies are possible as of June 14, 2022, e.g., during system startup.
The following systems are NOT affected:
- ISRA VISION Surface Inspection systems on Microsoft Windows 7.
- All ISRA VISION systems that have not been provided with Windows updates since delivery.
Since Microsoft does not offer this DCOM security update as an optional install, settings of the affected inspection systems must be adjusted. ISRA VISION provides you with a configuration script free of charge to ensure compatibility with the new Windows DCOM security update.
